How Do I Report Hate Crime?
How do I report Hate Crime?
The police view any kind of physical or threatening verbal attack as very serious. No hate crime is too small to report to the local police.
We asked Sylvia Lancaster, mother of Sophie Lancaster, what she would say to a young person who had experienced Hate Crime and where undecided whether to report it.
Some areas will have their own Hate Crime policies, which can provide special services who can take you through the procedure. Your local police authority will be able to explain this to you. Some are detailed below:
Preston City Council Hate Crime Page
Lancashire Hate Crime Incident Group
Merseyside Police Report Hate Crime Page
Blackpool Council Hate Crime Reporting
Bolton Council Hate Crime Page
S.O.P.H.I.E are collecting feedback on how people who belong to subcultures are treated when reporting an attack on them (unprovoked, because of the way they look), and would be interested to hear of you experiences, positive or negative. Any data they collect will be presented to the police, which can help them improve their responses to incidents of Hate Crime in the future. You can email them at: feedback@sophielancasterfoundation.com.
